FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How does the alignment of the printed sheets work before entering cutting cylinders?

Printed sheets are aligned through adjustments made by the operator through the PLC as well as manual adjustments.  Types of adjustments include Left/Right Margin, Skew, and Vertical Cut Adjust.

  2. Do I need to print a registration mark on every sheet?

Yes, the registration mark is used to stage and time the precise moment when the paper enters into the cutting cylinders. It should be 1” x .3” in size, .5” from the right side of the sheet, and .375” from the leading edge as depicted.

  3. How much pressure do I apply to the pressure gauges above the cylinders?

You only want to apply enough pressure so that you get a clean cut and no more.  If you apply excess pressure above what is needed to get a clean cut you can shorten the life of the die.

  4. Can you create boxes or packaging with the RD435?

Yes, the folds in the packaging is created by what is referred to as a Tri-Crease.  This type of cut allows the substrate to be bent without cracking.

  5. How thick of substrate can be cut with the RD435?

We have successfully tested up to 435 GSM or 21pt.   Additionally, higher GSM is possible but will need to be tested on an application-by-application basis.

  6. Can the RD435 run laminated pieces?

Yes, cutting through laminate can be achieved with a die that is specially designed to cut laminated pieces.

  7. Is the stripping mechanism standard with the RD435?

Yes, the stripper mechanism and the conveyor table come standard with the die cutter.

  8. What is the recommended spacing between cut pieces when stripping?

The recommended gutter measurement between the pieces is at least .4’’ and no more than .5.” Maximum gutter size does not apply to gear side gutters.

  9. What is the warranty on the RD435?

The warranty is 180 days parts & labor. Extended warranty terms and pricing are available upon request. See Extended Warranty options here.

  10. Who do I order the cutting dies from?

Contact your local die-maker. As long as you follow our die specifications, any die-maker can manufacturer your custom flexible die.
